     KENT A. JEFFIRS, ATTORNEY AT LAW, is an attorney with over fifteen years of experience representing individuals and businesses in Indiana.  He concentrates his practice in wills, trusts and estate planning, probate administration, guardianships, real estate, small business setup and counseling and civil litigation including family law.  His office is located at 104 W. Clark Street, on the historic Courthouse Square, in downtown Crown Point, Indiana.

Education
     Kent A. Jeffirs received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame, with honors, and received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Indiana University - Bloomington, magna cum laude, where he was a Member and Associate Editor of the Indiana Law Journal.

Memberships and Achievements
    
Kent A. Jeffirs was the 2005 President of the Lake County Bar Association and has also served as its Vice President and on the LCBA Board of Managers for many years.  He served two years as Chairman of the Trust and Probate Section of the Lake County Bar.  Mr. Jeffirs also serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the Greater Crown Point Chamber of Commerce and the Notre Dame Club of Northwest Indiana.  He is a member of the Lake County, Indiana State and American Bar Associations, the Calumet Inns of Court and the Crown Point Rotary Club.  
     Mr. Jeffirs is a published author and frequent speaker on will, trust and probate matters.  His article, Always the Last to Know: No Notice is Good Notice for Disinherited Family Members Who May Challenge the Validity of a Will, was published as a scholarly work in Res Gestae, the Journal of the Indiana State Bar, advocating the reform of Indiana's probate notice requirements.  This work was acknowledged by the Indiana Supreme Court in the case of Troxel v. Troxel, 737 N.E.2d 745 (Ind. 2000).  Mr. Jeffirs has also presented numerous seminars to the public on topics such as Protecting Your Assets from the High Costs of Guardianship and Long Term Care, Transferring your Assets to Your Family Without the Time & Expense of Probate, and various other trust and probate issues.  His legal education seminars for attorneys have included: Trust & Estate Planning: Concepts and Techniques 1998; Hot Topics in Estate Planning and Probate 1999; Probate & Estate Administration 2000: Supervised & Unsupervised Administration: Considerations and Procedures; Hot Topics in Estate Planning and Probate 2000; Hot Topics in Estate Planning and Probate 2001; A Practical Guide to Estate Administration in Indiana 2002; Planning & Administering Assets Outside of Probate: Land Trusts, Joint Accounts, POD/TOD and Other Non-Probate Transfers 2002; Keys to Success in a Real Estate Transaction in Indiana 2003; The Probate Process From Start to Finish 2005; Estate Planning with Wills and Trusts 2006 and The Probate Process From Start to Finish 2006.

     Mr. Jeffirs was elected Judge of the Crown Point City Court effective January 1, 2004 and continues to serve as the Crown Point City Judge in addition to his long-standing private practice in Crown Point, Indiana.  

Family
     Kent A. Jeffirs is a lifelong Indiana resident.  He was the ninth of twelve children born to Michael and Beverly Jeffirs of Plymouth, Indiana.  His wife, Calliopi Liontakis Jeffirs, and he have three children, Stephen, Nicholas and Maria and reside in Crown Point, Indiana.
